After decades behind a "bamboo curtain", Vietnam is stepping into the open again. It is a land of subtle beauty where tourism is still a novelty.

From astonishingly beautiful landscapes, to miles of unspoiled beaches and lagoons framed by coconut palms, few other places in the world are able to capture the imagination as vividly as the land of the blue dragon.  Vietnam offers visitors unforgettable experiences whether they are cruising the breath taking Halong bay or strolling down the tree lined boulevards of Saigon, Vietnam truly has something to offer everyone.

When planning a holiday to Vietnam it is important to note that really isn’t a right or wrong time to visit. During most months of the year you will experience both sunshine and rain in varying quantities.  The country’s contrasting weather seemingly mimics the country dramatic landscapes and various peoples giving any traveller to Vietnam the opportunity to see the huge contrasts within the country on their trip.

Generally the most favourable seasons to visit Vietnam are autumn (Sept–Dec) and spring (March and April). The concept of winter in Vietnam is quite the novelty. In southern Vietnam the dry season lasts from December to late April or May, and the rains from May through to November. However, since most rain falls in brief afternoon downpours, there is no need to worry as sunshine will quickly reappear. Daytime temperatures in the region rarely drop below 20°C, and in the hottest months (March, April and May) occasionally hit 40°C.

Along the central coast the rainfall pattern reverses and the wet season starts to flourish in late November and continues through December. Temperatures reach often reach the mid 30’s from June to August, when it’s pleasant to escape into the hills. This makes the spring (February and March) the perfect time to visit the spectacular sight of the forbidden purple city walled palace complexes in the city of Huế. Built in the early 19th century, the palace grounds were designed by feng shui experts to optimize the energy flow. The structures within the city were meant to resemble the Forbidden City of Beijing. The Forbidden Purple City grew to have hundreds of different rooms and became a vast property.

Northern Vietnam is generally warm and sunny from October to December, after which cooler weather sets in dipping to around 15°C. Temperatures begin to rise again in March, building to summer extremes that occasionally reach 40°C. With 2000 or more islands rising from the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin, Halong bay is breathtakingly beautiful. Designated a World Heritage site in 1994, the bay’s immense number of islands are dotted with wind- and wave-eroded grottoes, and their sparsely forested slopes ring with birdsong. Beyond a boat cruise, visitors to Halong also come to explore the caves. There are few real beaches in Halong Bay, but Lan Ha Bay has sandy coves a short boat trip from Cat Ba Town.

This year why don’t you consider a trip behind the bamboo curtain with CTS Horizons, and let us introduce you to one of the most energetic and remarkable countries in the world in the world.
