Morning visit to Tiananmen Square en-route to the Forbidden City, the complex of imperial palaces which were home to the Emperors for over 500 years. Grand halls and courtyards gradually give way to more intimate domestic quarters, giving a glimpse into the pampered isolation of the Emperors. Afternoon visit to the beautiful Summer Palace where the Emperors went to escape the heat of the city. (BL)
Drive north to the less- crowded and more scenic part of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Afternoon visit to the Ming- era Temple of Heaven where the Emperors performed annual sacrificial rituals for good harvests. Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner. (BLD)
Visit the ornate Lama Temple and the serene Confucius Temple with its cypress trees and large stone tablets, before flying to Xian. On arrival visit the Ming City Wall. Transfer to the 4-star (officially 5-star) Grand New World Hotel or similar. (B)
Visit the world-renowned Terracotta Army – 7000 individually crafted life-sized figures, complete with chariots and horses. Afternoon visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Grand Mosque and Muslim quarter. This evening there is an optional Tang- era music and dance dinner performance. (BL)
Morning flight to Lijiang nestled in a beautiful valley against the backdrop of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.Ascend Lion Hill for panoramic views of the old town. Stay at the Zen Garden Hotel, located in the heart of the old town. Afternoon visit to Mu's Mansion and explore the old town. (B)
Take a short chair-lift ride to the beautiful Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and admire the wonderful panorama. Visit a nearby village. Remainder of the day free for own exploration. (BL)
Visit Black Dragon Pool Park, an iconic sight of Yunnan. Drive to Dali, lying between the Cangshan Mountain range and vast Erhai Lake, a relaxed place, popular for its charming landscape, mild climate and the hospitality of its people. Many visitors travel to Kunming just to see the Stone Forest which consists of thousands of narrow, fantastically- shaped pillars of rock scattered over an area of more than 100 sq miles. Fly to Chengdu to and the Tibet Hotel. (BD)
Admire the Giant Buddha at Leshan on a cruise. Back in Chengdu visit the People's Park and join the locals for afternoon tea, then continue to Jinli. Optional Sichuan Opera performance. (BL)
Morning visit to the Giant Panda Research Centre. Back in the city visit the quaint old quarter and the Shu Brocade Institute. Enjoy a hotpot dinner. (BD)
