Depart London Heathrow at around 1640 on the non-stop British Airways flight to Beijing.
Arrive Beijing around 1025 and visit Tiananmen Square en-route to the 4-star Shangri-La Traders Hotel. After time to relax, visit the quaint hutong quarter by Lake Houhai. Enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)
Visit the magnificent Forbidden City. Explore the hutong area of Nanluguoxing and take lunch. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, the imperial lakes and resorts created for Empress Cixi. (BL)
Drive north to the less-crowded and more scenic part of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Enjoy a traditional Peking Duck dinner. (BLD)
Morning visit to the Ming-era Temple of Heaven where the Emperors performed annual sacrificial rituals for good harvests. Enjoy a journey by bullet train to Xian and transfer to the 4-star Grand New World Hotel. (BL)
